How are you Leading?
When Leo Tolstoy wrote “everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself” he hit a key failing of many transformation efforts. Far too often those leading a change do not ask what change is required of them and what are they doing to effect that personal transformation.Leaders need to model the way for those aspire to lead. Leaders often underestimate the power of such symbolism. Leaders need to critically reflect about their behaviour, identify how they inadvertently contribute to organizational challenges and then consider what change may be required. This may mean adjusting their mental models, and getting comfortable with the discomfort or learning anew.
So as you go forward leading others, how are you showing up? Is your behavior lighting the way or getting in the way?
